Ladies First

Isadora Duncan, Loïe Fuller, Ruth Saint Denis, Martha Graham, and Josephine Baker: five women who modernized dance in the early 20th century. Ladies First pays them homage by inviting sixty teenage girls to explore their worlds and make them their own, with an eye toward the creation of a collective inter-regional performance. Instigated by Marion Muzac, the project is offered simultaneously in three French territories: Picardie/Île-de-France, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, and Midi-Pyrénées/Languedoc-Roussillon. The participants from each region will attend several series of artistic workshops in order to experience the creative process firsthand. The final step will be the creation of a piece for twenty of the most committed young women, who will revisit the choreographic issues faced by these pioneers of dance.
